Listed in the National Roll of the Great War, his entry confirms:
He enlisted in January 1906, and at the outbreak of the War he was immediately drafted to France and served throughout the battle of Mons and in the subsequent retreat.
He also took an active part in the Battles of Marne, The Aisle, Ypres 1st and 2nd, Neuve Chapelle, Loos, The Somme and Arras and the retreat and advance of 1918.
He was discharged in 1919.
Was awarded the M.S.M for “Conspicuously good work” London Gazette 14th June 1918
