George Hanson was born in Grantham in 1843
Initially served in the Royal Sussex Artillery before being discharged to allow his enlistment in the 59th Foot in November 1862
Served 12th November 1862 to 7th January 1884, Discharged in Burnley, Lancashire
Promoted Corporal 14 September 1864, Sergeant 27th August 1867, reduced to private 19th May 1877, promoted Corporal 16th November 1881, Sergeant 26 November 1882 and finally to Colour Sergeant 12th November 1883.
