Defence of Kimberley Star pair – Kimberley Town Guard.

Queens South Africa, clasps, Defence of Kimberley, Orange Free State, South Africa 1902, Pte W Forster, Kimb. Town. Gd.; Kimberley Star, “a”hall mark.

William Forster is thought to have been born in c 1868 and died between 1914 to 1917.

He lived on Commercial Road, Durban, Natal. He served in the Kimberley Town guard qualifying for his QSA and Kimberley Star,  being released from service after 4 months (ie after the siege) to work on Water supply duties, lagging and fitting pipes for the towns water supply.

Initially serving from 15th October 1899 to 15th February 1900,with the Kimberley Town Guard, then later from 16th April 1902 to 30th June 1902 earning his OFS and SA 1902 clasps.
