General Service, Cyprus – Lieutenant in the Women’s Royal Army Corps.

General Service medal 1918-62, clasp, Cyprus, Lt. M.I. Best. W.R.A.C.; with named box of issue.

Margaret Iris Best was born in Dungannon, Northern Ireland, and in 1954 enlisted into the WRAC as an Officer cadet., being commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant on the 17th September 1954.

Details of her commission appeared in the Belfast Newsletter on the 3rd March 1955:

Dungannon Girl’s Success.

Officer Cadet Margarete Iris Best of Dungannon was placed tenth in the order of Merit at the passing out parade at the W.R.A.C. School of instruction, Hindhead Surrey, yesterday. The cadets were inspected by General Sir Cameron Nicholson, the Adjutant-General.

On the 17th September 1956 she was promoted to full Lieutenant.

In February 1957 Margarete was posted to the 2nd Single Squadron, Cyprus as part of the peace keeping force.

On the 5th March 1958 she resigned her commission

With typed notes, copies of newspaper article and London Gazette entries  and entries in The Lioness.

Condition – NEF, a couple of surface scratches, but nicely toned
