Nicholas Agar, of Lanchester, Durham, enlisted into the 16th Durhams in April 1916 and was posted in August, after training, to the 12th Battalion on the Western Front.
Won his MM on the Somme/Ancre (LG 21st December 1916) possibly for an action recorded in the War Diary on 24th Sept. 1916 – trench raid.
Agar would have gone on to see service at Messines Ridge and in the 3rd Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele offensive.)
He was killed in action on 20th September 1917 – battalion action in the attack on Dumbarton Woods. Remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Ypres.
A very nice group in NEF condition and better.
