Gwalior campaign 1843 – Maharajpore Star.
To : Lieut. W. R. Dunmore, 31st Regt. Native Inf.
Dunmore had a long and interesting career, largely in the 31st, 1826-57.
This regiment did not mutiny in 1857 – which was put down to their good training and the influence of their officers.
Ensign, Sept 1826; Lieut. 1833; Captain April 1844; Major 1851. Promoted to Lt. Col. 1856; Colonel in 1859.
Served at Maharajpore (medal); the Punjab Campaign 1849 (Soodalapore, Chillianwallah and Goojerat); wounded at Chillianwallah– medal; N.W.Frontier (Kohat 1850 – medal).
Appointed Commandant of Landour Depot in 1857 but too ill to remain on duty and retired to UK.
Died in Harrogate, 12th September 1885 aged 79.
Medal has original pocket clip (i.e. not altered to different suspension) and is in GVF condition.
