The 2nd Battalion had been in Palestine in 1934, and was ordered to Palestine again in May 1936 when it was stationed in Egypt , the order was then cancelled although a detachment then did go to Haifa in May 1936.
In order to have received the France and Germany Star Richards would have had to transfer to another unit as the 2nd Battalion went on to serve in Burma. However the 5th Battalion of the Berkshire Regiment did receive this medal having landed on D Day under the Canadian 3rd Division.
