“On the 13th and 14th (January, 1902) a fight took place at Doornfontein, near Griquatown, about 100 miles west of Kimberley. The British report 24 casualties; the officer of the detachment, Major Whitehead, with several of his men, being killed. The name of the Boer officer who attacked the enemy is not given. It is probably Conroy or De Villiers.”
