Rupert George Washington was born in Dukinfield, Ches., in 1887 and enlisted into RN in 1905.
Served on HMS Philomel 1908-09, including service in the Messina Earthquake in Jan. 1908 [only 35 medals to ship – the smallest number to RN vessel] and off Somaliland, 1908-09.
During WW1 he served on a variety of UK shore bases and on the base at Gibraltar, HMS Cormorant 1917-19, including service aboard TB 97.
Discharged June 1919 and joined RFR and demobbed from that in 1921.
Sold with a good file of research, copied papers, census details etc.
Messina medal with contact marks and a few tiny edge nicks; Somaliland with light contacting and one small edge knock; trio in about NEF condition.
