Scarce Abu Klea family group – Somerset Light Infantry, and West Somerset Yeomanry
Fathers Medals: – Egypt, clasps The Nile 1884-85, Abu Klea:
to 1784Pte A.F. Charly 1/Som:L.I., Khedives Star 1884-6.
Sons Medals: – British War Medal and Victory medal: To 1620 Pte J Chorley W. Som. Yeo
Alfred Chorley was born in 1861 and enlisted in 1879 serving until 1891, his service papers confirm this his only entitlement.
NOTE The Abu Klea clasp to the Somerset Light Infantry is scarce only 21 awarded to the regiment.
His son James Chorley (note spelling of surname, which we believe is a phonetic mistake as both sets of medals were bought off the family) served in the West Somerset Yeomanry, transferring to the Somerset Light Infantry, and his MIC confirms entitlement to the pair only.
With Postcard Photograph of James Chorley
Medals generally VF, normal pitting from the star to the Egypt medal, but this is fairly light.
