Victory Medal :

to – Capt. V. E. Powell.

Victor Edmund Powell – served in 7th Battn. KSLI (which suffered more losses on Western Front than any other KSLI battn.) and was killed in action during the 3rd Battle of Ypres, on 26th Sept. 1917.

This was during the severe fighting for Polygon Wood; the battn. was at full strength on the day, but according to the regt. history, only 20 officers were ‘allowed’ to go into action. Powell and four other officers were killed during the ‘successful’ attack on the 26th; nearly 300 Other Ranks were killed or wounded.

The regt. history also records that Powell had been wounded during the attack on Serre in November 1917.

With copy of MIC, which confirms Pair only – France/Flanders 1916.

Commissioned from the 3rd (Special Reserve) Battn. – then a training battn. – into 7th.

Commem. on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

EF condition.
