Temperance Medal with rare clasp “Frontier 1897-98”

In stock

Temperance Medal with rare clasp “Frontier 1897-98”.

Standard lozenge-shaped Army Temperance Association medal in silver, with rare clasp “Frontier 1897-98”.

Various Temperance Societies produced what may be called “campaign clasps” to add to their medals. Known examples include “Omdurman”, “Khartoum”, “Relief of Chitral”, “South Africa”, “North West Frontier 1908” and others around the period 1895-1910. They were worn by those “who had participated in a campaign and maintained their pledge of abstinence”.

Examples are rarely seen; this one clearly related to the Punjab Frontier operations of 1897-98.

VF with slight edge denting to one facet.
