Crimea 1854-56, clasp, Sebastopol, J. Peder. Gr., Rl. Horse Arty. officially impressed naming; Indian Mutiny 1857-59, clasp, Lucknow, Gunr. John Pedder, Rl. H. Art. suspension claw re-affixed; Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse, Sergt. John Pedder Coast Bde. R.A.; Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue , John. Pedder. E. Battery. Royal Horse. Artillery, contemporarily impressed naming, plugged and fitted with a Crimea-style suspension, mounted court-style.
John Pedder was born in Southampton in 1831 and attested for the Royal Horse Artillery at Otterbourne, Hampshire, on 23 August 1852.
He served with the 2nd Battery, Royal Horse Artillery in the Crimea for 15 months, and then in India for 4 years and 5 months, including active during the Indian Mutiny.
Promoted Corporal on 24 August 1861, and Sergeant on 30 April 1864, he transferred to the Coastal Brigade, Royal Artillery on 1 November 1864, and was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in August 1873.
He was discharged on 23 December 1873.
