R. Renton, 18th Bl Inf; Delhi Durbar 1911, un-named as issued. (Note first two named in running script)
Robert Ross Renton was born in Madras on the 21st May 1862, the son of Major General Robert Renton.
He served from 1882, promoted Lieutenant 30th January 1884, transferring to the Royal Scots on the 30th July 1884.
Seconded for service in Indian Staff Corps 9th June 1887

1902 – Serving in Indian Staff Corps, rank Major (30th January 1902)
1908 – Serving in the 18th Native Infantry, rank Major, Double Company Commander, 3rd August 1898
War services information in Harts A.L of 1908 state:
Major R.R. Renton served in the Burmese Expedition in 1886-89, including the operations round Hlindes, Yemethen and Nyingan, and the operations of the 1st and 3rd Brigades under Brigadier General Welseley and Brigadier General Lochart respectively (Medal and 2 clasps) and with the Manipore Expedition in 1891 in 1891 (clasp)
London Gazette 3rd May 1910, records being promoted to Lieut Col whilst serving in 18th Native Infantry.
Renton is confirmed by the published roll as receiving the Delhi Durbar 1911 medal serving in the 18th Bl Inf.
1913 – Retired list as Lieutenant Colonel30th January 1910 to 30th January 1913
On his retirement is he recorded as living in Edinburgh
He died at home, Kirklands, Gullane near Haddington, East Lothian on the 14th January 1939
