John Giles Overbury was born February 1881, Paddington Middlesex, a Stockbroker he was commissioned in the Territorial Force in 1911. Serving in the 10th battalion (Duke of Cambridges Own) Middlesex Regiment.
Promoted Captain 15th August 1912.
The 10th Battalion were mobilized for war service at Sheerness in August 1914. On the 30th the battalion sailed for India arriving Bombay on the 2nd December 1914.
Medal Index card states he landed with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force 16th November 1916.
Mentioned in Despatches 12th March 1918 for Mesopotamia
He served through 1917 as a Staff officer attached Royal Flying corps, subsequently serving as General Staff officer 3rd Grade at the War Office 2nd January 1918 to February 1919.
