The medal rolls for the 50th have 3 men called J. Smith. However only one of these is entitled to three clasps and marked on the rolls “W.O” ie War Office and would have been officially impressed.
Therefore we are certain that this medal was awarded to 3656 Private Joseph Smith who died on the 11th March 1855
