Crimea Long Service group – 46th (South Devonshire) Foot. Wounded in the trenches before Sebastopol.
Crimea, clasp Sebastopol, *** R. Saunders 46****( contemporary engraved capitals) ; Long Service and Good Conduct (Vic) 3477 Pte R. Sanders 46th Foot; Turkish Crimea (British issue) un-named as issued. (Note difference in spelling of surname)
Richard Saunders was born in Tiverton, Devon in 1836.
He enlisted on the 11th November 1854 and served until 23rd October 1975.
His papers record that he was wounded in the leg in the trenchs before Sebastopol on the 4th September 1855.
He was awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct medal on the 14th March 1874.
Condition – Crimea is Fine, heavy contact damage to naming, LSGC GVF as is the Turkish Crimea medal.
