Description

Military Medal Territorial Force group – 159 (Devon) Heavy battery Royal Garrison Artillery.

Military Medal (Geo V) 329237 Sjt R. Lapthorn R.G.A.; British War and Victory Medals, 329237 Sjt R. Lapthorne. R.A,; Territorial Force War Medal, 292 Gnr R. Lapthorne. R.A.; Defence Medal. Group court mounted for wear. (Note different spelling of surname on MM)

Richard Lapthorne was born in 1896 in Salcombe, Devon.  He is confirmed with both service numbers on his MIC, which also refers to his entitlement to a Silver War Badge and his T.F.W.M.

His father William Henry was a member of the Devonshire Volunteer Artillery from 1883.

Military Medal, London Gazette 20th August 1919.

His T.F.W.M. roll shows he served in 159th Heavy battery, and contains a William J Lapthorne serving in the same battery, with such an unusual surname we suspect they may be related?

The S.W.B. roll confirms his entitlement and that he was issued badge no B314985, and that he was discharged on the 29th September 1919.

His pension card index gives his address as 25 island Street, Salcombe, South Devon. It also gives his full name as Richard Harry Lapthorn.

He died in December 1946 in Plymouth, Devon.

Condition – GVF, a few minor edge brushes.
