Edmund Staveley was born on the 20th April 1836.
A Lieutenant 31st July 1855 he served in the Indian Mutiny in various actions including, Kaleenudee, Ramgunga, Siege of Capture of Lucknow, actions at Bareilly, Shahjehan Pore, Mohumdee, Capture of Fort Bunny, action at Rampore Kussiah, the passage of the Gogra at Fyzabad, action at Mucheegaun.
Captain 9th June 1863
Major 5th July 1872
Served in the Afghan War.
Lieut Colonel 21st December 1881
Colonel 1st July 1885
Retired on Half Pay with rank of Honoury Major General 21st December 1886.
He died on the 5th December 1914 in Tavistock, Devon. aged 78
