Joseph Gott was born in Aston, Warwickshire in 1875.
He enlisted on the 10th May 1894, serving at home to the 10th February 1896, India to 17th January 1897, Mauritius to 21st March 1899, South Africa to 22nd September 1902, home to 9th May 1906 when he was discharged.
His papers show him as only receiving the above Queens South Africa medal and clasps.
On the 11th February 1896 he is listed as serving in the 1st Battalion, and was still in the battalion when they sailed on the RIMS Warren Hastings on the 11th December 1896, he was still on her on the 14th January 1897, when she struck a rock off the coast of Reunion.
Although his services papers only list entitlement to a QSA, he also appears on medal rolls for a K.S.A. medal, in the research is an MIC for a Joseph Gott in the 2nd Rhodesia Regiment, showing entitlement to a 1914-15 trio, which is believed to be the same man.
