Description

Queens South Africa, 5 clasp – 2nd battalion Shropshire Light Infantry

Queens South Africa , clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902, 6137 Pte R. Hollingshead . Shrops. L.I.

Ralph Brough served under the alis of John Hollingshead (confirmed in his service papers)

He was born in Kidsgrove in Staffordshire  and enlisted on the 27th September 1899, serving at home to 21st July 1901, South Africa to 7th October 1903, India to 28th November 1907, South Africa to 15th February 1911, home to 19th October 1911.

His papers confirm this medal and clasps, they also record that by the 23rd June 1900 he had deserted, but then rejoined three days later, and was tried and sentenced to 42 days  in prison.

The medal rolls are a little confused, whilst they confirm these clasps, on one roll he is listed as R, Hollingshead, and the other as J. Hollingshead.

His service number does link all records together.

Condition – GVF, some edge nicks and surface wear.
