John McHattie was born in Grange, Keith, Banffshire, in 1876.
He enlisted on the 21st March 1896, serving at home to the 13th October 1897, East Indies to 23rd September 1899, South Africa to 31st August 1900 and at home to 20th March 1908.
He is noted as having served on the Punjab Frontier , receiving the I.G.S. 95 with clasps Punjab Frontier and Tirah (1st battalion) plus this medal and clasp.(2nd battalion)
John McHattie died on the 25th May 1950, in Keith, Banffshire.
