Queens South Africa, clasps, Defence of Ladysmith, Orange Free State, Transvaal, 4079 Cpl C. Glinnan, 5th Dragoon Guards.
Charles Henry Glinnan – born in Stepney c.1868.
This man had an interesting career. He enlisted into the Middlesex Regt. in 1886 but was rapidly discharged with ignominy after being convicted and imprisoned for theft; described as “troublesome”.
Declared former service in the Southern Submarine Mining Militia (!)
Shortly afterwards, he enlisted into 5th Dragoon Guards (c. 1887) and served over 13 years with them, discharged from South Africa in 1901.
He came home and joined the Imperial Yeomanry and went back to South Africa and for what was only a matter of days’ active service before the war ended, he was awarded the KSA and two clasps (returning his original “1901” clasp) ex IY roll.
