Queens South Africa – Kings Shropshire Light Infantry (M.I.), entitled to a Bridgnorth tribute medal.

Clasp “Relief of Kimberley” (scarce to the regiment) indicates service in the 85th (Shrops.) Coy, Mounted Infantry, derived from 2/KSLI and part of 4th Battn. of M.I. Based on men in the battn. who had trained as M.I. and augmented by other chosen men. They had a very different war service than the rest of the battalion.
Also, a letter from him (in 4th MI Battn. in S. Africa) was published a Bridgnorth paper.
George Piper was born in St Leonard’s parish, Bridgnorth, Shropshire in 1867.
He enlisted on the 20th August 1886, served at home to 16th January 1888, Malta to 16th August 1891, Egypt to 1st December 1891, Hong Kong to 4th April 1894, home to 20th December 1899, South Africa to 26th August 1902, home to his discharge on 27th August 1902.
Obtained his Mounted Infantry certificate in Cairo.
His service papers confirm he is also entitled to a Kings South Africa medal.
Confirmed as receiving the Bridgnorth Tribute medal for the South African War.
