John Mainwaring Lindsey was born in Dominica, West Indies during 1826, the son of Robert Lindsey and Hannah Louisa Wolff. He married Jeannette Monroe Coxworthy at Quebec Cathedral on the 15th September 1852.
Served West Coast Africa 1855, in the Gambia during the capture and destruction of the stockaded town of Sabagee.
Russian War 1856 , serving in the Turkish Contingent from February to July
First appointed Assistant Commissaries-General 7th November 1852
Retired 1st October 1878
He died in Plymouth, Devon on the 27th April 1893
