Naval Long Service and Good Conduct (Vic) G. Symes, A.B. (Rig) H.M.Y. Victoria & Albert.
There are several G. Symes who served in the Victorian Navy, and one other who went on the serve on HMY Victoria and Albert, however the only man who serve on the Royal Yacht during Victorias reign is:
George Symes, born in Lydd, Kent on the 5th September 1862.
He served initially as a boy from 23rd October 1877.
He served on St Vincent to 29th July 1879, Newcastle to 7th September 1880, Cleopatra to 11th December 1883, Duke of Wellington to 31st March 1884, Excellent to 6th April 1885, Mercury 8th August 1885, Excellent to 9th September 1885, Sultan to 2nd July 1886, HMY Victoria and Albert to 7th September 1900, Duke of Wellington to 31st December 1901.
He joined the Royal Fleet Reserve on the 3rd December 1903.
